ChatGPT
Connect Assistant Core MCP to ChatGPT in Developer mode.
ChatGPT only allows MCP servers with write tools (such as update_assistant) in Developer mode. Developer mode is available on paid plans; on Business, Enterprise and Edu, a workspace admin may need to enable it first.
Using Codex (CLI, IDE, desktop)? See Coding tools.
Add the connector
- Open ChatGPT, go to Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
- Back in Apps & Connectors, click Create.
- Fill in:
- Name:
Assistant Core - Description:
Manage Assistant Core assistants: settings, knowledge, tools, feedback. - MCP Server URL:
https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp - Authentication:
OAuth
- Name:
- Confirm that you trust this app, then click Create.
- ChatGPT opens the Assistant Core sign-in page. Pick assistants and access level, then click Allow. See Granting access.
OpenAI moves these menus fairly often. If Developer mode isn't at the path above, look through the other Settings sections or check OpenAI's documentation.
Use it in a chat
- Start a new chat, click + in the message box → Developer mode, and select Assistant Core.
- Ask as usual, for example: "How many knowledge documents does Shop A have?"
ChatGPT shows the arguments and asks for confirmation before running write tools. Review them before confirming, especially when ChatGPT edits a system prompt.
OpenAI warns that Developer mode is meant for people who understand connector risks. With Assistant Core, the main risk is the AI app following instructions hidden in end-user conversations. See Safety when granting edit access.
