Coding tools

Connect Assistant Core MCP to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed and Gemini CLI.

These tools run on your computer. When you grant access, Assistant Core warns that the app runs locally and its name can't be verified. That's expected; just make sure you started the connection yourself. See Granting access.

None of them needs an API key or an Authorization header: declare the URL and the tool registers itself and opens your browser to sign in.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http assistant-core https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp

Add --scope user to use it in every project. Then type /mcp in Claude Code, select assistant-core → Authenticate.

Codex

The Codex CLI, IDE extension and desktop app share one configuration.

codex mcp add assistant-core --url https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp
codex mcp login assistant-core

Or add this to ~/.codex/config.toml, then run codex mcp login assistant-core:

[mcp_servers.assistant-core]
url = "https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp"

Check with codex mcp list or /mcp in Codex.

Cursor

Add to Cursor (opens Cursor and asks you to confirm), or add it manually to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (all projects) or .cursor/mcp.json (one project):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "assistant-core": {
      "url": "https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Open Cursor Settings → MCP and click Connect on assistant-core to sign in.

VS Code

Add to VS Code, run MCP: Add Server, or add this to .vscode/mcp.json in the workspace:

{
  "servers": {
    "assistant-core": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Click Start above the server in the file and follow the sign-in prompt. Use it in Copilot Chat in Agent mode.

Windsurf

In Cascade, open MCPs → View Raw Config (~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json) and add:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "assistant-core": {
      "serverUrl": "https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Windsurf uses serverUrl instead of url. On first use, Windsurf opens your browser to sign in.

Zed

Open settings (zed: open settings file) and add:

{
  "context_servers": {
    "assistant-core": {
      "url": "https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Leave out any Authorization header so Zed prompts you to sign in with the standard MCP OAuth flow.

Gemini CLI

gemini mcp add --transport http --scope user assistant-core https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp

Or add this to ~/.gemini/settings.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "assistant-core": {
      "httpUrl": "https://api.assistantcore.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Gemini CLI uses httpUrl for Streamable HTTP (url means SSE, which won't work). In Gemini CLI, run /mcp auth assistant-core to sign in. Sign-in needs a browser on the same machine, so it won't work over SSH.

Examples in coding tools

Coding tools can read files in your project:

  • "Read docs/pricing.pdf and add it to Shop A's knowledge base." The tool reads the file and calls add_knowledge_text.
  • "Compare Shop A's current system prompt with prompts/shop-a.md and update it if they differ."
